Najib congratulates gold medal Games winners – Bernama

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today congratulated Malaysia's squash queen and the badminton mixed team on clinching the second and third gold medals for the country at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

"Datuk @NicolDavid did it again, well done to her and our mixed badminton team," Najib (pic) tweeted.

In the final yesterday, Datuk Nicol David defeated rival and world number two Laura Massaro of England in straight sets, 12-10, 11-2, 11-5, in a 44-minute match at the Scotstoun Sports Campus.

It was Nicol's second Commonwealth gold medal.

Elsewhere, the badminton mixed team defended their title after beating England 3-1 in the final at the Emirates Arena.

The first Malaysian gold medal of the Games was won by weightlifter Mohd Hafifi Mansor in the men's 69kg category.

Throughout Malaysia's history of participation in the Commonwealth Games, the national contingent won two gold medals in Victoria, Canada, in 1994; 10 gold medals in Kuala Lumpur (1998); seven gold medals in Manchester, England (2002) and Melbourne, Australia (2006) and the best haul of 12 gold medals in New Delhi, India (2010). – Bernama, July 29, 2014.
