Imam, Muezzins Told To Impart Knowledge Gained From Courses

HULU TERENGGANU, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Imams and muezzins have been urged to impart knowledge that they have learned from courses to Muslims, particularly the younger generation.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said this would enable young people to learn about Islam from mosque officials with authoritative knowledge on religion rather than from dubious sources, including the Internet.

He also called on imams and muezzins to learn computer applications to enable them to widen their knowledge and keep tabs on issues involving Muslims abroad by visiting authoritative Islamic websites, apart from relying on printed material.

Mosques and surau should take advantage of broadband coverage that has reached their areas, he said after launching the Imam and Muezzin Character Building Programme organised by the Hulu Terengganu Islamic Religious Office here today.
